Accessorize!
Accessories are the finishing touches to your home, like a necklace and earrings to complete your outfit. They should be selected thoughtfully knowing where you will use them when you purchase them. Unless you’re a designer, room stylist or a serious collector with ample storage and display cases, it can be tricky to accessorize a room. Does your living room suffer from nick-knack overkill, with every solid surface covered with candles, books, stuff you inherited from Aunt Agnes and the latest trendy find your picked up from Pier One Imports?
Let’s start with the top of your cocktail table. The main reason we have cocktail tables in front of our sofas, whether you have one table or two small tables is to set down a drink, book, snacks, and TV remotes. Not having enough space to set a coaster and refreshment is a problem. I recommend having a table with a shelf underneath it. Corral TV remotes, tissue boxes, and anything that’s ugly in a decorative box or basket on the lower shelf. Use the top to display a beautiful art object, sculpture, fancy book of photography, or candle holders on a decorative tray to keep the tabletop looking tidy. Accessorize in odd numbers. Don’t be afraid to edit, and change your tabletop displays seasonally to freshen up the room. If you need help call me for an in-home accessory and artwork consultation.
